Keiver Fernandez won the World Boxing Association (WBA) Fedelatin Super Flyweight title by defeating Keyvin Lara by split decision this Saturday night in Panama City.
The judges’ scorecards were 86-85, 85-86 and 86-85, an accurate reflection of the hard-fought bout that gave the vacant regional title to the Venezuelan fighter.
Fernandez faced his first big test as a professional with a belt at stake. In addition, he was facing the Nicaraguan, who started with slight favoritism due to his greater experience.
However, Fernandez was able to adapt to the train of the fight and fight toe-to-toe against the Central American to get a great victory.
The Venezuelan has a record of 23 wins, 1 loss, 1 draw, and 12 KOs. Lara has 30 wins, 4 losses, 1 draw, and 10 KOs.
