Less than two weeks before his fight against Mexican star Saul “El Canelo” Alvarez, Briton Rocky Fielding spoke to the media through a teleconference attended from his native United Kingdom.

The interview left no doubt about the intentions of the champion, who will seek to surprise everyone in the most important fight of his career.

Fielding and Alvarez will fight on December 15th at Madison Square Garden in New York, home to great legends such as Muhammad Ali, Rocky Marciano, Sugar Ray Robinson, Joe Frazier, and Jake LaMotta among others.

As to one of the questions pointed to the opinion of being a stepping stone for the Mexican, the champion said: “People can think or say what they want, I’m focused on Canelo. What has happened and what comes next is to prepare myself and be ready for the challenge.”

On fighting Alvarez at Madison Square Garden in New York, he said: “I have been in boxing since I was nine, fighting at Madison Square Garden against the biggest name in boxing is incredible.”

Fielding was asked about the recent fight of his compatriot Tyson Fury, and said: “It was a great presentation by Fury, it felt great to see him, we know each other from the amateurs and we share something of madness, which has led us to be champions. The whole UK is behind him and he is an example of overcoming and inspiring people.”

When asked how he would feel if he beat Canelo, he said: “I already feel like a superstar because I get up daily and see the mirror and I analyze everything I’ve achieved in boxing. I made my first steps in Lancashire and now millions of people will see me fight.”

As for the key to beating the Mexican, he predicted the following: “I have to make for a perfect fight, people underestimate me and I have a lot to offer, I just have to do what I know and do it well”.

At the close of the interview he was asked about the change in his life when the fight was confirmed and he added: “It was massive – media, fanatics, a whole revolution. With the signing of the fight many things changed. I have more support and surely many will travel to my fight and the arena will be full.”

It should be noted that the fight will have in play the Super Middleweight Championship of the World Boxing Association (WBA). It is the first defense for Fielding while it is the search for Alvarez to win his third title of the WBA.
