Moises Flores will defend his interim WBA World super bantamweight title against Paulus Ambunda over a scheduled 12 rounds in Windhoek, Namibia, on Saturday, June 11.

The bout was originally scheduled to take place on May 7, but was postponed due to a calf injury Ambunda sustained while training.

Twenty-nine-year-old Flores is an eight-year pro (24-0, 17 KOs, 1 no contest) who fights out of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. Undefeated and first-ranked by the WBA, “Chucky” won the title last April by beating Oscar Escandon via split decision. His first title defense came five months later, when he stopped Luis Emanuel Cusolito by 12th-round TKO.

His 35-year-old opponent, who fights out of Windhoek, is a nine-year ring vet (24-1, 10 KOs) who won the vacant IBO World super bantamweight title by defeating Leandro David Esperante by split decision last August, a title he successfully defended against Jason Cooper, beating him by unanimous decision four months later. The IBO title will be on the line in the upcoming match. Eleventh-ranked by the WBA, “The Rock” won the WBO World bantamweight title in March 2013 by beating Pungluang Sor Singyu via unanimous decision, a title he lost to Tomoki Kameda by unanimous decision five months later, suffering his only pro defeat thus far.

The winner could meet Guillermo Rigondeaux, who was just reinstated as WBA Super World super bantamweight champion. Indeed, the match is likely, given the WBA’s desire to have one world champion per division. The WBA World super bantamweight title is currently vacant, though a fight between Jun Qiu Xiao and Nehomar Cermeno is scheduled for June 24.
