The World Boxing Association (WBA) Women’s Championships Committee promoted Franchon Crews Dezurn to super middleweight champion.
Until the end of February 2024, the WBA rankings showed Savanah Marshall as the 168-pound champion. Marshall won the title on July 1, 2023, when she defeated Dezurn by majority decision in the United Kingdom.
On February 29, 2024, the WBA Women’s Committee received an email from Marshall’s representative, John Wischhusen, advising that Marshall is still coming off a hand injury and has plans, other than boxing, before returning to the ring as a boxer, which, “hopefully,” could be around September/October 2024.
In addition, Wischhusen expressed that the title could be vacated, and Marshall could be placed among the top ten contenders, at the discretion of the committee.
On the other hand, last December 15, 2023, Dezurn won the WBA Interim Super Bantamweight Championship against Shadasia Green by unanimous decision in Orlando, USA.
The following are the sections from which the previous analysis of the situation has been made;
WBA Rule C.14. Boxers, their representatives and promoters are required to “know and be familiar with all the rules of the association”.
WBA Rule C.11. The defense period for the Non-Heavyweight Division, is within 9 months from the date the title was obtained, if against the official contender; if not the official contender, within one hundred and twenty (120) days.
WBA Rule C.24. If the Champion is unwilling to participate in a contest to determine a single champion in the division, she shall forfeit her share of the title, and the willing champion shall become the recognized champion of the division.
Based on the foregoing, it has been determined that
Dezurn shall defend her WBA super middleweight world title against a contender selected from the top ten in the division at any time prior to one hundred and twenty (120) days, counting from the date she is placed as the sole champion.
