The World Boxing Association (WBA) female flyweight champion, Japan’s Naoko Fujioka, will defend her title this Friday against Mexico’s Sulem Urbina at the Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles, California.
The fight will be part of the Golden Boy Promotions event and will be one of the most important fights of the evening.
For Fujioka, it will be a great opportunity to defend her title in the United States. The veteran will make the second defence of the belt she won in 2018 by defeating Mexican Irma Sanchez by unanimous decision. The Japanese fighter retained her belt for the first time in 2019 against compatriot Tenkai Tsunami and will now return after being inactive due to the pandemic.
Urbina, meanwhile, will be going for her first world title shot. The Hermosillo, Sonora, native has been much busier than the champion, having fought two bouts in the past year. In her most recent bout, she fought a war with Marlen Esparza and despite the loss, she left a good impression.
Fujioka has a record of 18 wins, 2 losses, 1 draw and 7 knockouts, while Urbina has 12 wins, 1 loss and 2 knockouts.
