Gilberto Jesus Mendoza, Vice President of the WBA, will be in charge of supervising the fight between Gennady Golovkin (31-0, 28 KO’s) and Martin Murray (1-29-1, 12 KO’s) for the title of the World Boxing Association on February 21 in Monte Carlo, Monaco.
The Kazakh fighter is one of the best today. He began his path in boxing as an amateur. Among his achievements: the silver medal of the middleweights in Athens 2004 Olympic Games, the previous year he had done the same in the world in the same division, emulating what he did in 2000, but in the universal junior tournament.
Its journey in professional boxing began in 2006 and later participated in the WBA insignia: KO drugs Campaign. However, it wasn’t until 2010 that he fought for the WBA 160 pounds title and he beat Nilson Julio Tapia by knockout in the third round.
“Golovkin is undoubtedly an important fighter for the World Boxing Association, we saw him grow in the KO drugs and has made knockout his brand. However, he has a big opponent in front as Martin Murray and for that reason I consider that the public will be the big winner”, said Gilberto Jesus Mendoza.
Besides, the WBA vice-president added that “GGG is among the best boxers at present. At a sports level he could be taken as the man who might shudder the great Floyd Mayweather reign”
The same night, Gilberto Jesus Mendoza will also supervise the 105 title fight between the defending champion South African Hekkie Budler (27-1, 9 KO’s) against Mexican Jesus Silvestre (30-5, 22 KO’s).
“We must not forget the title Minimum world champion Hekki Bulder who will fight a tough opponent but has shown be unbeatable in the division”, said.
