Gilberto Jesús Mendoza turned 50 on December 25 in the midst of one of the greatest challenges in life, which is presiding over the World Boxing Association (WBA), the most important organization in boxing.
The WBA family is proud to have a leader like Mendoza, one of the most brilliant minds in the sport, who has carried out incredible projects for the organization and for the sport he loves.
The WBA president has been a boxing man all his life. Of course, with his father’s guidance since he was a child, when he started to develop his taste for martial arts, especially the sport of flat noses.
Mendoza came to the WBA as another worker to help in areas of technology and other jobs. At first, his only interest was to develop professionally as an engineer, but as he got to know the organization and everyone saw his potential, he became more and more interested.
He went through several positions until he became Executive Vice President and accompanied the President Emeritus in a major joint effort for the boxing world. Already in 2015 when he became president, he jumped into a different projects for the WBA and has created great things in five years of work.
His plan to reach remote places has been a success. He also created the “Future WBA Champion, a program that seeks to put its grain of sand in the rescue of Olympic boxing and in which extensive camps were held with athletes from more than a dozen countries in preparation for the Olympic Games.
It has continued the WBA program against drugs, strengthened the regions, made bonds to create WBA China and is preparing for the centenary in Russia, which will be one of the biggest conventions in the history of sport.
The WBA family knows it is in good hands and will continue to support Mendoza’s initiatives. Happy birthday, President.
