Gilberto Jesus Mendoza, president of the World Boxing Association (WBA), was present at the boxing finals of the Central American and Caribbean Games that took place last Saturday, August 2nd in Barranquilla, Colombia.
Mendoza took the opportunity to share with fighters and leaders of amateur pugilism and enjoy a night of good boxing and tell them about the new plans of the organization. The first ones to whom he shook hands were Alberto Torres, president of the Colombian Boxing Federation, Julio Torres, leader of Colombian boxing, and Yuberjen Martinez, gold medalist in the 49 kilo class in the Central American and Caribbean Games.
In addition, he held a friendly talk with Alberto Puig, president of the Cuban Boxing Federation, and Fran Lopez, member of the Executive Committee of AIBA, with whom he maintains a pleasant relationship. Mendoza told both of them of his admiration for Cuban boxing and talked about the Venezuelan gladiators who could not attend the Central American event.
Along with Mendoza were the WBA Colombian directors Rodolfo Fortich and Francisco Pina, who day by day work to develop boxing in the South American country.
In this way, the WBA’s top boss continues to pave the way to unite the leadership within boxing.
