On Saturday, July 16, at Club El Millon in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, the late WBA President Gilbert Mendoza Sr. will be honored with a fight card that spotlights Dominican and Venezuelan fighters fighting each other.
In the main event, former WBA Fedelatin and WBA Fedecentro super flyweight champion Norberto “Meneito” Jimenez (23-8-4, 12 KOs), from Villa Duarte, Dominican Republic, returns to the ring against Venezuelan bantamweight champion Renson Robles (6-1, 2 KOs), from La Victoria, Venezuela.
In other action, welterweight Alberto “La Avispa” Puello (7-0, 4 KOs), from San Juan de la Maguana, Dominican Republic, gets it on with Kelly “Fino” Figueroa (8-4-3, 3 KOs), the southpaw from Anzoategui, Venezuela.
Former WBA Fedecaribe featherweight champion Daniel “El Perro Bravo” Ramirez (30-1, 26 KOs), the hard-hitting 20-year-old from Constanza, Dominican Republic, fights Luis Nino (6-4, 5 KOs), from Caracas, Venezuela.
William “El Gago” Encarnacion (10-0, 9 KOs), the knockout artist from San Juan de la Maguana, Dominican Republic, puts his unbeaten record on the line against Venezuelan featherweight champion Jose Luis Graterol (16-15, 5 KOs), from Bolivar, Venezuela.
Undefeated Yomar Medina (9-0, 8 KOs), hailing from the Dominican Republic, fights Denilson “El Problema” Herrera (8-9-1, 2 KOs), from Aragua, Venezuela, in a lightweight six-rounder.
Saturday’s fights at Club El Millon in memory of Sr. Mendoza are promoted by Shuan Boxing Promotions, headed by Bélgica Peña.
“We wished to honor and celebrate the memory of Gilberto Mendoza Sr.,” said Peña, “whose life was devoted to the best interests of the sport of boxing and one who always helped Dominican boxing promoters and prizefighters.”
