Gilberto Jesus Mendoza, president of the World Boxing Association (WBA) spent some time on Wednesday, July 26 with young Medellin boxers who train at the Carlos Mauro Hoyos Coliseum, under the supervision of former Colombian world champion Beibis Mendoza.
The WBA leader explained the young boxers how professional boxing world works and what to do become world champion. That’s why they should listen to their trainers, go to the gym every day and be very disciplined, stressed.
However, he made emphasis that “boxing is a vehicle of social improvement” and through its systematic practice they can become trainers, judges, referees, promoters and even win a global belt.
“I’m surprised of their great knowledge of sports, because they not only admire great fighters but they also know the interiors of boxing organizations, the commissions. But beyond that I realize that there is an important asset, Beibis Mendoza who still feels the gold and black belt as he did before. He is giving these guys that information that goes beyond the ring,” said Gilberto Mendoza.
For his part, former world champion Mendoza said that this WBA visit is very important for him and his pupils: “This will undoubtedly motivate the boys, because they see that the most important boxing organization in the world is sees them and if they work hard, they could become champions, as I did. ”
Christian Bautista, a young boxer from the Carlos Mauro Hoyos Coliseum, showed his excitement over the visit: “boxing changed my life, took me out of the street and I leave the bad steps to come to train. Now I am a person that practices boxing daily and my aspirations go further now, I want to follow Beibis in the footsteps of because he is who motivated me to be here. And the WBA coming here means a lot to me, and gives me a lot of encouragement, because I know that I can achieve boxing success because we are with those who are. ”
Two great surprises
The youngsters of the Carlos Mauro Hoyos Coliseum received two bing surprises, they could video chat with WladimirKlitschko former heavyweight champion and with Venezuelan Jorge Linares, WBA 135 lbs champion.
“Work very hard, nothing is impossible, in life, everything is possible, as long as you work hard, you listen to your trainer, your family and be very disciplined to succeed” said Linares who promised to visit the gym and train with them. While Klitchko, encouraged them to train very hard, every day to be world champions.
I think Linares is an exceptional boxer, I like the way he throws the punches. Klitschko, is very strong and a great champion. I like the idea of having them here, and talk to them.
Beibis Mendoza said to be satisfied with both video chats, because those great champions are great examples for his pupils to follow to be world champions
