Kazakhstan’s Gennady Golovkin arrived Thursday in Japan for his unification bout against World Boxing Association (WBA) super middleweight champion Ryota Murata.
The IBF champion is already on Japanese soil and declared himself ready to jump into the ring of the Saitama Super Arena next Saturday, April 9 for his awaited bout with the Japanese fighter.
“I respect Murata’s true power and his personality as well. I am in good shape and will show a great performance without fail,” the 40-year-old power puncher assured in a press release from Joe Koizumi.
“GGG” will be finalizing the last details ahead of the showdown and will also fulfill promotional commitments in the week leading up to the fight against Murata.
The bout was supposed to take place in late 2021 but pandemic-related restrictions prevented it from taking place. Four months later, the conditions are now in place for the public to enjoy a great middleweight showdown.
