George Groves retained his World Boxing Association (WBA) Super Middleweight Super Championship with a big unanimous decision victory over Chris Eubank Jr. at the Manchester Arena.
Groves made the second defense of his belt and won by unanimous decision with cards of 117-112, 116-112 and 115-113. The Englishman made an impeccable fight from start to finish in front of a very aggressive opponent who attacked during the whole fight.
Groves did good boxing and had an effective counterattack with which he wore out his rival. An accidental clash of heads in the third round caused a cut in Eubank’s eyebrow, who kept attacking a very focused Groves.
The champion knew how to manage his energy in the intermediate rounds, while dominating the actions with good punches in the short distance. Since the eighth round, Groves’ punching began to be noticed and his blows damaged Eubank notably.
Groves injured a shoulder in the final rounds, but he overcame the dislocation and ended up winning. Now, the current champion has a record of 28 wins, 3 losses and 20 knockouts, while Eubank now has a record of 26 victories, 2 loses and 20 knockouts.
