Venezuelan Roger Gutierrez will seek the second defense of his World Boxing Association (WBA) super featherweight belt against Dominican Hector Garcia next Saturday at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida.
Two young and talented fighters will carry their Latin American flag in a showdown that looks very even on paper.
The Venezuelan will put his belt on the line, which he won in January 2021 against Nicaraguan Rene Alvarado and defended against the same opponent in August of that same year. Gutierrez was going to face Chris Colbert last February but after being diagnosed with Covid-19 he had to withdraw, which gave way to an eliminator between Colbert and Garcia.
It was right there that the Dominican got his big moment and defeated Colbert against the odds with a dominant performance. Garcia proved he was ready for a title shot and got it.
Gutierrez has 26 wins, 3 losses, 1 draw and 20 knockouts. Garcia is undefeated in 15 fights, 10 of them won by knockout. On the same event, Alberto Puello and Batyr Akhmedov will fight for the vacant WBA lightweight belt.
