The WBA wishes Happy Birthday to WBA World middleweight titlist Danny Jacobs, who turns 29 today.
The Brooklyn fighter is a nine-year pro (31-1, 28 KOs) who won the then-vacant title in August 2014 by stopping Jarrod Fletcher via fifth-round TKO. He’s successfully defended his title three times, most recently last December by stopping Peter Quillin via TKO at 1:25 of the first, a runner-up for The Ring‘s Knockout of the Year. The power-puncher has only lost once, stopped by Dmitry Pirog via fifth-round TKO in July 2010.
Formerly known as “The Golden Child,” Jacobs now goes by “The Miracle Man.” And for good reason. Diagnosed with life-threatening bone cancer in March 2011, Danny was in the gym about a week after leaving the hospital, where he’d undergone surgery and follow-up treatment.Seven months later, in October 2012, he was back in the ring, stopping Josh Luteran by first-round TKO. Eight wins and another birthday later, Danny is still going strong.
