Anthony Joshua (19-0, 19KO’s) is set to defend his WBA Heavyweight Super Championship against Carlos Takam (35-3-1, 27KO’s). The two men took to the scales today, with Joshua weighing in at 254.1 lbs and challenger Takam weighing in at 235.4 lbs.
The fight will take place this Saturday, October 28th, at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales. It will be broadcast live on Sky Box Office, the SkyGo app, and TalkTalk TV customers can order the fight for £19.95. It is also going to be broadcast live on Showtime.
Carlos Takam is a late replacement for Kubrat Pulev, who was Joshua’s initial opponent but suddenly withdrew from the bout due to an injury to his shoulder during a sparring session. Takam had no issues stepping in for the injured Pulev because promoter Eddie Hearn had a pre-contract deal with Takam, who had been training since the time Pulev started his camp.
“AJ” is coming off of a historic win over longtime champion Wladimir Klitschko in a fight that is likely to earn “Fight of the Year” honors by many media outlets and fans. Both men were down in the fight but it was the youthful challenger that prevailed in the eleventh round to stop Klitschko via TKO and end his bid for the most heavyweight title defense wins at 25; one short of Joe Louis.
Takam is being taken as a very serious threat despite the short notice replacement. He has fought solid opposition such as Alexander Povetkin, Joseph Parker, Mike Perez, Tony Thompson, and many other heavyweight contenders.
The stage is set for the fight and fans are pumped and ready to pack the Principality Stadium tomorrow night in Cardiff for what figures to be an excellent heavyweight matchup for Super Champion status in Joshuas first defense of the title. There will be three separate WBA title bouts on the card.
