Looking to stay on top, the Irish Katie Taylor, World Boxing Association champion, full 135 lbs. queen, returns to the ring on December 11 against Kazakhstan’s Firuza Sharipova at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, United Kingdom.
With her sights set on big commitments, Taylor has become one of the biggest names in world women’s boxing. She became the unified champion of the lightweight category by defeating Delfine Persoon in June 2019, being this and the rematch fight, of the best shows seen in her career. Then, she made 4 successful fights where she exposed everything: the WBA, WBC, WBO, FIB belts and the prestigious sash of The Ring.
Since she defeated Jennifer Han last September, the postponed fight against the renowned Amanda Serrano started to be talked about again. And according to Eddie Hearn, who manages Taylor’s career, the fight could be scheduled for April 2022.
In the meantime, Taylor returns to Liverpool for another challenge. This time it will be the turn of the also experienced Sharipova, who accumulates a total of 14 wins with 8 knockouts and only 1 loss in what was her 2016 professional debut in Russia against Sofya Ochigava. While Taylor remains undefeated in 19 appearances with 6 stoppages before the limit.
