This Saturday was confirmed the second fight between the champion Mauricio Lara and his now challenger to the World Boxing Association (WBA) featherweight title Leigh Wood, which will be on May 27 at the Manchester Arena.
After a first meeting on February 18 in Nottingham, in which Lara delivered a spectacular knockout to Wood to take the crown, it was felt that the fight deserved a rematch because of the parity it had and the excitement it provided.
Wood was having a good fight and was dominating on the scorecards until the seventh round, when an impact to the face by Lara put him in a bad way and changed the balance in favor of the Mexican to force the British corner to throw in the towel.
Now both are ready for a second part and yesterday they were in London during the event in which Anthony Joshua and Jermanine Franklin fought. Lara and Wood stepped into the ring and their fight was officially presented along with Eddie Hearn, who had the championship belt in his hands.
Lara has a record of 26 wins, 2 losses, 1 draw and 19 knockouts, while Wood has 26 wins, 3 losses and 16 knockouts.
