The Venezuelan Liborio Solís became the 115 pounds absolute champion of the World Boxing Association, after defeating by majority decision the Japanese Kohei Kono, in Ota City in Tokyo.
Solis and Kono faced in a mandatory bout for the super flyweight title in a very fierce battle where both boxers hit the canvas, and the Venezuelan won by mayority decision.
Two judges favored the Venezuelan 114-112, 115-111 and the third judge gave it a draw 113.
Solís, who entered the the ring as the Interim Champion got over Kono’s punishment in round 2 when he was sent down, and got the count by the referee Luis Pabon.
However, the new world champion got over it and as he told the media after the fight “I had to change my strategy in that round”.
Solis punished Kono and sent him to the canvas. The Nippon Kono was defending for the first time the title he won on December 31, 2012.
Ever since that moment, it was a give and take battle. Solis wins a title after 15 fights with 1 draw and seven KO’s, while Kono drops his record to 28 wins with 7 loses.
Uchiyama retains title
In the same card, the WBA Super featherweight champion, Takashi Uchiyama retained his black and gold belt.
This time the Venezuelan Jaider Parra was knocked out in the fifth round by Uchiyama.
The Japanese defended for the seventh time the belt won to Juan Carlos Salgado in 2010, and now he has 20 victories with 17 KO’s while Parra drops after 20 victories.

El venezolano Liborio Solís se convirtió en el campeón absoluto de las 115 libras de la Asociación Mundial de Boxeo, después de ganar por decisión mayoritaria ante el japonés Kohei Kono, en Ota City en Tokio.
Solís y Kono se fajaron en el pleito mandatorio de la división súper mosca, y después de una aguerrida batalla donde ambos peleadores tocaron la lona, el venezolano se alzó con el triunfo con una decisión mayoritaria.
Dos de los jueces favorecieron al venezolano con tarjetas de 114-112, 115-111 y la tercera autoridad dio empate a 113.
Solís, quien exhibía el título interino, se repuso del castigo recibido en el segundo asalto, cuando fue enviado al suelo y necesitó el conteo de protección brindado por Luis Pabon, referee del pleito.
Sin embargo, el ahora campeón se repuso y tal como él mismo comentó a los medios después de la pelea, “debí cambiar de estrategia tras ese round”.
Solís dañó al nipón Kono, quien hacía su primera defensa del título ganado el 31 de diciembre de 2012. En el octavo round lo envió al suelo, y obligó a Pabón a contarle.
A partir de entonces, la batalla se convirtió en toma y dame total. Solís consigue el título en 15 peleas ganadas en el profesional, siete de ellas por nocaut y un empate. Kono deja su hoja personal en 28 triunfos con siete derrotas.
Uchiyama retiene el cinturón
En el mismo programa, disputado durante la jornada del lunes en Tokio, el campeón súper pluma de la AMB, Takashi Uchiyama retuvo nuevamente su cinturón negro y oro.
Esta vez, el venezolano Jaider Parra fue noqueado en el quinto round por Uchiyama.
El japonés hizo su séptima defensa del cinturón ganado a Juan Carlos Salgado en 2010, y ahora tiene 20 peleas ganadas sin conocer la derrota, y 17 KO, mientras que Parra cae tras 20 victorias.
