Friday night at Coliseo El Cangrejo in San Antero, Colombia, Liliana “La Tigresa” Palmera (25-11-3, 15 KOs), from Monteria, Colombia, successfully defended her interim WBA World female super bantamweight title by decisioning Chantell “La Fiera”Martinez (18-7, 7 KOs), from David, Panama.
The final scores were 98-92 and 97-93 twice.
It was Palmera’s second defense of the title she won by defeating Ana Lozano in October 2014.
Using speed, playing the angles, and throwing combinations, Palmera brought the fight to her Panamanian opponent. She rocked Martinez several times and as the rounds progressed, the more experienced fighter’s superiority was apparent.
Whenever “La Tigresa” drove “La Fiera” to the ropes, the crowd cheered wildly.
“I thank the people in my village who were behind me,” said Palmera after the fight. “I was prepared and felt a great responsibility to defend this title, which is dedicated to all Colombia.”
