Vasyl Lomachenko will defend his World Boxing Association (WBA) Lightweight Super Championship against Teófimo López in one of the most important fights in the division in recent years.
The Ukrainian boxer will step into the ring this Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas to defend his black and gold WBA belt, and his WBO belt in the unification fight against the American of Honduran descent, who is the IBF champion.
Lomachenko, 32, faces a young and strong fighter in a clash of styles that promises to be a dynamic fight with divided opinions about who will win. “Hi-Tech” is considered one of the best pound-for-pound boxers today and one of the great attractions of world boxing thanks to his speed, strength and the way he dominates his opponents.
“Loma” is WBA Champion since May 2018, when he defeated Jorge Linares to win the belt. Since then, he has defended the title three times against Jose Pedraza, Anthony Crolla and Luke Campbell.
Lopez is known for his KOs and physical strength. At only 23 years old he is already world champion and wants to win all the belts against Lomachenko. In his most recent bout in December last year, he gave Richard Commey an a great knockout and now intends to dispatch the Ukrainian boxer the same way.
This week, the different promotional activities of the fight will take place. On Friday, both boxers are required to weigh the 135 pounds of the category to be qualified for Saturday’s match.
