Claudio Marrero and Jesus Rojas had no problem making weight before their fight for the World Boxing Association (WBA) Featherweight title. Both boxers will go in the ring on Friday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas in the undercard bout featuring the weekend’s big fight between Gennady Golovkin and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.
Dominican Marrero, current Interim monarch, hit the scales at 126 pounds, while his challenger, a native of Puerto Rico, stopped the balance at 126 pounds. The Dominican will be making his first defense after winning the belt on April 29 against Peruvian Carlos Zambrano.
The fight looks quite even on paper and marks another episode in the history of the sport rivalry between Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. The champion has a record of 22 wins, 1 loss and 16 knockouts. Rojas, meanwhile, has a balance of 25 wins, 1 loss, 2 draws and 18 knockouts.
