Venezuelan Mayerlin Rivas conquered the World Boxing Association (WBA) Super Bantamweight championship, after defeating by unanimous decision against Panamanian Laura Ledezma. In a bout that took part in the KO TO DRUGS held at the Roberto Duran Arena in Panama.
“Monita” got 96-93, 98-92 and 96-94 cards in an action packed fight. Never the less Rivas had to stand toe to toe with the Centro American, little by little he managed to dictate the pace to get a notable victory.
Ledezma did a brave fight, and for moments she complicated Rivas, who was able to maintain control during most of the rounds, especially in round 9, where she was close to score a Knockout, but the home crowd favorite managed to survive despite the punishment.
Rivas gets her second belt in different divisions, and her new record is 16 Wins, 4 Losses, 2 Draws with 10 Kos, meanwhile Ledezma lost her undefeated record, which now is 14 Wins. 1 Loss with 7 Kos.
