David Jimenez put the name of Costa Rica on the map when he defeated prospect Ricardo Sandoval on July 16 in his World Boxing Association (WBA) flyweight title eliminator in Los Angeles, California.

Although he was not the favorite in the betting, the Central American left a great impression and gave the surprise on American soil to earn the opportunity to fight for a world title against Artem Dalakian in the near future.

At the doorstep of his big opportunity, “Medallita” paused for a moment to think about the magnitude of what he has achieved and to remember where he comes from.

“No luxuries but always happy. We did not have the perfect life, but we always differentiated and recognized that it is worth living smiling despite the difficulties. A home full of good values and a lot of happiness, I would not change my childhood for anything because it has helped me to be a mature man and to value every single thing in life. I thank my mom and dad for not giving up and giving us everything they could to make us look better and better,” he wrote in his social networks.

Now the challenge will be greater but the time has come for the Costa Rican. The work has brought him rewards and he is one step away from achieving the great dream of his life.
