Bektemir Melikuziev will defend his WBA Continental Americas Super Middleweight title for the first time on Saturday against veteran Gabriel Rosado in one of the most interesting fights to be held at the Don Haskins Center in El Paso, Texas.
The Golden Boy Promotions event will feature Jaime Munguia vs. Kamil Zseremeta as the main fight. Melikuziev and Rosado will be in the co-feature fight and both made weight on Friday.
The Uzbek champion hit the scales at 168 pounds, while the American challenger weighed 168 pounds, both at the division limit.
Melikuziev is only 25 years old and boasts impressive talent in addition to his physical strength. The Rio 2016 silver medalist will be making his eighth professional fight against a veteran of a thousand battles in what is a true test for his growing career.
Rosado is an exchange boxer who usually gives great fights to the public and has fought against Jermell Charlo, Willie Monroe Jr., Gennady Golovkin, Daniel Jacobs, among others. At 35 years of age, he knows he needs a win to stay alive and will look to build on that experience against the 10 years younger Melikuziev.
The Uzbek is undefeated in 7 fights, 6 of them won by KO, while the American has 25 wins, 13 losses, 1 draw, and 14 KOs.
