A pleasant closing ceremony marked the official end of the 98th Biennial Convention of the World Boxing Association (WBA), held in Fuzhou, Jiangxi, for the first time in history. The New Century Grand Hotel, hosted an unparalleled event in which different personalities associated with the WBA and the boxing world received awards from President Gilberto Jesus Mendoza for their great contribution.
With the presence of representatives of the municipal government of Fuzhou, sportsmen and legends, Mendoza gave several recognitions to a large list of important men and women who have put all their sand grain to make sport and the WBA better every day.
The oldest boxing organization in the world has always considered the press a key element for boxing and has worked hand in hand with it so that boxing has the promotion it deserves, so Mendoza could not miss the opportunity to award the journalists who attended the Convention for their trajectory and their passion to their work.
Ludo Saenz, Carlos Irusta, Marcelino Castillo were some of the journalists that received a recognition to their work from Mendoza in a speech that narrated all the passion and passion that they put to the activity and the love they have for boxing.
Several of the great boxers were awarded awards, including Hanna Gabriels, Thammanoon Niyomtrong, Erislandy Lara and, naturally, local hero and WBA champion Can Xu.
Mendoza narrated the example of excellence of each of them and highlighted the reason why they all represent the values of the WBA during their sporting careers.
Finally, several legends also climbed on the podium with Roberto Duran, Bernard Hopkins and six-time amateur world champion Mary Kom, who gave a very motivating speech and thanked the WBA for what it had done for her and her teammates.
Other people involved in the operation of the AMB were recognized by the president, who officially closed the Convention with great satisfaction and thanking the city and all those in attendance.
There are still several recreational activities in agenda, that will take place on Sunday and Monday. The WBA is proud to have filled with boxing a city like Fuzhou and to continue strengthening ties with China, an emerging country that wants to continue growing. The organization and its members have felt at home.
