David Morrell is set for his first appearance in Las Vegas this weekend and will defend his World Boxing Association (WBA) super middleweight championship against Yamaguchi Falcao as part of the main event featuring Gervonta Davis taking on Ryan Garcia at the T-Mobile Arena.
The 25-year-old Cuban champion has taken just a few fights to make a name for himself in the boxing world and enter the elite 168-pound division. His southpaw guard is combined with a refined technique typical of the Cuban school, but he also has a devastating power and excellent combinations, which has made him a fearsome fighter.
He has been WBA champion since 2020 and has made several defenses of his title. The most recent was against Aidos Yerbossynuly on November 5, in Minneapolis.
Falcao, on the other hand, is a boxer with a great history in amateur boxing. He was an Olympic bronze medalist at the 2012 London Olympics at 81 kilograms and jumped to the pros later in 2014.
Since becoming professional he has even been patient and has had good victories, which have earned him the headlining opportunity he has been looking for. He also has a southpaw guard and ample experience that he will try to impose in the ring.
Morrell comes into the fight with 8 wins, 7 of them by knockout. For his part, Falcao has 24 wins, 1 loss, 1 draw and 10 knockouts.
