Ryota Murata and Gennady Golovkin already have a date for their fight for the World Boxing Association (WBA) Super Middleweight Championship and the IBF title. On April 9, they will step into the ring of the Super Arena, in Saitama, Japan, for one of the most interesting fights in the category.
This is a rescheduled unification fight between the Japanese fighter and the Kazakh. They were originally scheduled to fight on December 29 but the restrictive measures due to the covid in the Asian country forced the suspension of the event until now.
Murata will make the second defense of his black and gold crown. He has not fought since 2019 due to the whole situation presented with the pandemic but now he is ready for a big fight against one of the most outstanding fighters of the last decade.
In Golovkin’s case, he last fought at the end of 2020 and has been sounding to be “Canelo” Alvarez’s next opponent in September but first he must beat Murata in his visit to Japan if he wants to move forward in his plan.
It will be a duel of good punchers and an interesting clash because of the aggressive styles of both fighters. Murata has the advantage in height and reach, while Golovkin seems to have strength on his side even though he is older than his opponent.
The Japanese has a record of 16 wins, 2 losses and 13 knockouts. On the other hand, “GGG” has 41 wins, 1 loss, 1 draw and 36 knockouts.
