Vergil Ortiz Jr. and Antonio Orozco will fight for the Gold Welterweight Title of the World Boxing Association (WBA) this Saturday in Grand Prairie, Texas.
Both fighters will have a very important fight for their careers, since the Gold belt puts them very close to reaching an opportunity for a world title in the short term.
The American Ortiz holds a slight advantage due to his youth and his immaculate record so far. The 21-year-old fighter has proven himself against a veteran like Mauricio Herrera – where he passed the test and earned the chance to have this important fight for the WBA belt. He will have a height advantage over his opponent and intends to take advantage of it in search of a victory that gives an important boost to his career.
For his part, Orozco will not make it easy for the young man from Dallas. The Mexican-born fighter has faced great rivals, including the 140-pound world champion Jose Carlos Ramirez, against whom he suffered the only defeat of his career. The Los Angeles native plans to use his experience to overwhelm Ortiz.
This week the activities prior to the fight will be carried out as the two fighters will hold the final press conference, in addition to the weigh-in next Friday in which they will have to mark the 147 pound limit dictated by the division.
Ortiz comes to the fight with 13 wins, no losses, and all his fights won by knockout. Orozco, meanwhile, has a record of 28 wins, 1 loss, and 17 knockouts.
