The World Boxing Association (WBA) has unveiled a special belt that was made to honor the big fight this weekend between Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao and Lucas ‘The Machine” Matthysse.
This is not a “brand new” belt, as some may think, but rather a special belt that is only made for historic matchups on special occasions to commemorate the best fighting the best.
These “Super Belts” are made for great matchups – such as the two most important fights of the year of 2017; Saul “Canelo” Alvarez vs Gennady Golovkin and Wladimir Klitschko vs Anthony Joshua. The latter of those fights ended up being the fight of the year and a very historic, legendary fight. This special belt was previously made for Vasyl Lomachenko vs Jorge Linares in May of this year to commemorate that great matchup.
The fight will be taking place this Saturday and broadcast live on ESPN+ from the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with the event figuring to be a very historical bout along the lines of Muhammad Ali vs Joe Bugner in 1975 that took place in Kuala Lumpur as well.
WBA President Gilberto Jesus Mendoza will be present at the fight to award the belt to the winner on this very special occasion, seeing as he knows the importance of this highly anticipated matchup.
