WBA #10, WBO #8 Joseph Parker (15-0, 13KOs) will clash with former world heavyweight challenger Kali Meehan (42-5, 32 KOs) over twelve rounds on October 15 at The Trust Arena, Auckland, New Zealand with WBA and WBO regional titles up for grabs. Parker scored a sensational 63 second knockout over WBO #13 Bowie Tupou on Saturday but will have the acid test against Meehan, who soundly defeated former world title challenger Shane Cameron in November 2014. Meehan was a split decision loser to Lamont Brewster in a WBO challenge in 2004. “Win, lose or draw, this is going to be my last fight and I want to it to end where my career began in West Auckland,” said the 45-year-old Meehan. “You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to know a young fighter like Joseph will be instructed to tire someone like me out, but I am ready for war. I’m prepared for 12 rounds and want to end on a high.”
“Initially I thought Kali offered nothing because of massive expectations on the size of his purse,” said Dean Lonergan of Duco Events, who talked to Fightnews today. “World rated Australian welterweight Jeff Horn will be also on the same promotion against a rated welterweight. Jeff Horn was impressive on Saturday in defeating IBF #10 Viktor Plotnykov. We will be matching Horn against a rated opponent.”
