The World Boxing Association (WBA) featherweight champion, British Leigh Wood, will not be able to make his September 24 defense against Mauricio Lara due to a biceps injury.

Matchroom Boxing released the news and later Wood himself left a message on his social networks regretting the situation and recognizing the work of his opponent, whom he hopes to face when he is fully recovered.

The champion was scheduled to step into the ring next September 24 in Nottingham against the Mexican to make the second defense of his crown but now he will need rest to recover.

The WBA expects a quick and satisfactory recovery and his return to the ring to defend the black and gold colors.
