The bout for the vacant World Boxing Association (WBA) super lightweight title between Dominican Alberto Puello and Uzbek Batyr Akhmedov was confirmed for August 20 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida.
The pioneer organization ordered the fight between Puello and Akhmedov for the 140 lbs. belt, once it was vacated.
The Caribbean native is ranked number one because he was the interim champion when the WBA’s world title reduction plan began, while Akhmedov is ranked number two on the list.
Puello is undefeated and is coming off a unanimous decision win over Ve Shawn Owens last December. He made two fights in 2021, both won by decision and he is a tall southpaw stylist who knows how to use the ring well.
Akhmedov is an aggressive and strong fighter who looks for the exchange to take advantage of his strength. The Uzbek’s only career loss was to Mario Barrios in 2019 and he comes in with two consecutive knockouts in his most recent fights.
The Dominican is 28 years old and has 20 wins without a loss and 10 knockouts. The Uzbek has 9 wins, 1 loss and 8 knockouts.
