World Boxing Association (WBA) super lightweight champion, Dominican Alberto Puello, will defend his belt against Rolando Romero on May 13 on U.S. soil, as officially announced on Tuesday.
The “Wasp” will go to the first defense of his crown, which he won last August 20 by defeating Uzbekistan’s Botirzhon Akhmedov by split decision in Hollywood, Florida.
Puello, a lanky southpaw fighter, has great technique and knows how to use the distance very well in his fights. He captured the vacant title against an aggressive opponent who always went forward, but the Caribbean fighter knew how to manage the actions to pull out a win on the scorecards.
“Rolly” Romero is a very eloquent fighter who knows how to heat up his fights and comes from being knocked out by Gervonta Davis in what meant the first defeat of his career. After resting for a considerable time and getting back in the gym to work hard, he got this opportunity after almost a year.
Romero has power and a quite particular style that is usually very difficult for his opponents. He wants to conquer the 140-pound crown and will appeal to his punch and pressure to get it.
Puello has a record of 21 wins, no losses and 10 knockouts, while Romero has 14 wins, 1 loss and 12 knockouts.
