Alberto Puello became the new Super Light Interim Champion of the World Boxing Association (WBA) by defeating Jonathan “Maravilla” Alonso via unanimous decision in a stellar fight of the KO to Drugs card that took place at the Carlos Teo Cruz Coliseum from Santo Domingo, in the Dominican Republic.
The great confrontation between Dominicans ended with a big victory for the “Wasp”, who won the black and gold belt after obtaining identical scorecards of 115-113 by the three judges in charge of the fight.
Puello fulfilled what was promised and made a fierce fight against Alonso, who came to grab the crown for himself. The confrontation was the most even fight of the night but Puello knew how to come out on top in order to take an important step in his career and become a champion.
The Dominican capital had a great fight atmosphere in the middle of a very important event that had great organizers for the enjoyment of the local public and the advancement of boxing.
In other fights of the evening, Abigail Soto conquered the WBA-Fedecaribe Heavyweight title with a win against Cristian Galvez; Jackson Marinez became a lightweight WBA-Fedelatin champion by dominating Kenin Betancourt; and Nicaraguan Giovanny Gutierrez knocked out the undefeated Dominican William Encarnacion in four rounds to keep the WBA-Fedelatin bantamweight title.
