Abel Ramos defeated Omar Figueroa after the latter retired before the seventh round on Saturday at the Dignity Health Sports Park, Carson California, during their World Boxing Association (WBA) welterweight eliminator bout.
As expected, both fighters went toe to toe in a slugfest battle but Ramos looked stronger, with plenty of tools to dominate “Panterita” and forced him to stay in his corner after the sixth round.
At first it was Figueroa who was in front and tried to overwhelm Ramos with combinations of punches. But the Pennsylvanian was patient, using his reach to keep him at bay and throwing upward punches to hurt Figueroa as the rounds went by.
From the fourth round on, Figueroa’s desire and tools to get the victory were many but Ramos was working at ease with his uppers and right jabs that swelled Figueroa’s face indicating that it was a matter of time before he decided to quit the fight.
Ramos dominated the eliminator and now has a record of 26 wins, 4 losses, 2 draws and 20 knockouts. Figueroa dropped to 28 wins, 2 losses, 1 draw and 19 knockouts.
