The World Boxing Association (WBA) will return to Argentina for a new KO Drugs XXXIX, which will take place on June 9-10 and will feature super bantamweight champion Mayerlin Rivas facing Argentina’s Nazarena Romero in the main event.
The 39th edition of the traditional festival of the pioneer organization will have two rounds that will be broadcasted by TyC Sports and will have a series of special activities that will take place in a country that has become an important place for the WBA and in which this event is organized for the second time in a row.
La “Monita” Rivas is coming for the second defense of her crown, which she won in February 2020 against Panama’s Laura Ledezma. Last June she defended against Karina Fernandez, whom she knocked out in a resounding manner and now she will face Romero in a nice duel.
The local fighter is Fedelatin champion of the category and is undefeated in her career. She just fought last Saturday to defend her regional crown against Julieta Cardozo and will be very motivated to fight for the world title at home.
Meanwhile, Venezuela’s Carlos Cañizales and Cuba’s David Matellon will also see action in the co-featured fight to comply with their light flyweight eliminator fight, ordered months ago by the championships committee.
Other great talents from different countries will be in action during two days of fights at the Casino de Buenos Aires and the organizers will be announcing more bouts as days go by. It will be an event full of surprises that will pay tribute to famous fighters and will offer great moments. It will be broadcasted by TyC Sports for Latin America, a channel that has already broadcasted this program in the past.
