American Daniel Roman and Japanese Ryo Matsumoto made weight in Tokyo for their fight this Wednesday at the Korakuen Hall for the World Boxing Association (WBA) Super Bantamweight Championship.
The champion Roman hit the scales at 121 pounds, while the Asian challenger stopped the scale at 121.9, both within the 122-pound limit of the division.
For Roman, this will be the first defense of his belt, which he won in September last year with a victory over Shun Kubo, who is also Japanese. Despite being the champion, the Californian knows he has much more to do in Boxing. “Right now I am world champion, but I still have much to prove to convince that I am a great universal monarch. I have to face the best in the world and Matsumoto is a deserved challenger for me, since he is a very strong boxer”, said the champion after the weigh-in ceremony.
For his part, Matsumoto talked about his strategy to make the weight and how it was beneficial for his physical condition. The Asian assured that he will make a great fight and that he will try to stay with the belt at all costs.
Roman has a record of 23 wins, 2 losses, 1 draw and 9 knockouts, while Matsumoto has a record of 21 wins, 1 loss and 19 knockouts.
