Daniel Roman moved his record to 25-2-1 while winning a unanimous decision over Moises Flores via scores 116-112, 118-110, and 120-108.
The fight took place at the The Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas, which is the headquarters for the Dallas Cowboys. Roman did get credit for a title defense of his World Boxing Association (WBA) World Super Bantamweight Title since he made weight, but he could not lose it in the fight due to Flores coming in overweight.
Roman had success throughout the fight going to Flores’ body frequently, as he ended up landing more punches to the body than the head over the course of twelve rounds which is rarely seen in championship fights.
Flores showed durability in taking plenty of punches from Roman, and he did have some moments in the fight with his power punches, but overall he was simply too slow and too looping with his punches to be very effective.
In the post fight Roman mentioned his opponent coming in overweight, saying “I was a little disappointed, we were disciplined and fighting for a championship.”
He further mentioned the awkward style of Flores and how he had some difficulty with him “I tried to box him but I had to watch out for his head. It became difficult, its a hard style, but we went to the body.”
