Gary Antuanne Russell won the WBA Continental Americas super lightweight title with a 10th round technical knockout over Victor Postol this Saturday night at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The American had a good performance in which he was aggressive and knew how to dominate a taller and more experienced opponent as the Ukrainian world champion.
Russell took the control from the beginning and imposed his fighting style with a good volume of punches that overwhelmed the European fighter. Although Postol had some good moments with strong punches to the face, he could not fully decipher and was ceding rounds in the course of the fight.
The American was gaining confidence and defined well the tough fight in the final round when he connected a combination that sent Postol to the ropes and began to punish him until the referee decided to stop the actions and decree the technical knockout in his favor.
Russell won the regional title of the pioneer organization and got his 15th knockout in the same number of appearances. Postol now has a record of 31 wins, 4 losses and 12 knockouts.
