Vic Saludar became the new World Boxing Association (WBA) Interim Minimumweight Champion by defeating Robert Paradero via split decision on Saturday in Biñan City, Laguna, Philippines.
The veteran got 113-115, 118-110, and 112-116 on the judges’ scorecards to win a hard-fought bout in which he stripped a younger opponent like Paradero of his unbeaten record.
Saludar had experience on his side. He had been a world champion in the past and at the age of 30 he did not miss the opportunity to take the belt.
The Polomolok native used his resources well and pressured Paradero by being superior for most of the fight and getting the important win.
The new champion left his record at 21 wins, 4 losses, and 11 KOs, while Paradero now has a record of 18 wins, 1 loss, and 12 KOs.
