On Saturday, September 26, at Centro de Convenciones in Puerto Penasco, Sonora, Mexico, WBA Super World flyweight champion Juan Francisco Estrada (32-2, 23 KOs), aka El Gallo, from Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico, defends his title against former WBA World flyweight champion Hernan “Tyson” Marquez (39-5-1, 28 KOs), the veteran southpaw from Empalme, Sonora, Mexico.
Estrada won the title in April 2013 when he decisioned Brian Viloria (32-3 at the time), who had won the title from Hernan Marquez seven months earlier.
Saturday’s fight will be El Gallo’s sixth defense of the crown.
Marquez, who is 5-3-1 in his last nine fights, dating back to the loss to Viloria in 2012, is looks forward to another shot at the title.
“I feel very confident,” he said. “I am convinced it will be a great fight, although many people do not give me a chance. But the negative comments motivate me to prepare even more.”
Estrada, who has nothing but respect for Marquez, said, “We have demonstrated that we are professionals and have respect for boxing. I am, as always, well prepared and ready for anything that ‘Tyson’ Marquez will bring. Hopefully he won’t fail to make the weight of 112 pounds, but that’s his problem.”
Juan Francisco Estrada vs. Hernan Marquez will be televised live in the US on beIN Sports Espanol. Azteca 7 will televise the bout in Mexico.
