When it comes to boxing, Venezuela must immediately refer to the name of the President Emeritus of the World Boxing Association (WBA), Dr. Gilberto Mendoza. The second boxing festival is being held in his honor and Venezuela has been overflowed with boxing as a tribute to his memory two years after his passing away.
Since last weekend, numerous fights have been held in various states of the country, where children and teenagers have demonstrated their skills in the ring. Falcón, Portuguesa, Nueva Esparta and Zulia, have been the states in which there has already been activity, while others like Trujillo, Sucre, Monagas, Carabobo, Táchira, Guárico, Yaracuy, among others, await their turn in the schedule, which will extend until next week.
The organizers of the event in Venezuela, have supported the initiative and thanked the president of the organization, Gilberto Jesus Mendoza and all the WBA staff. “On behalf of the Asobox Portuguesa Board of Directors, we thank Gilberto Jesús and all the members of the WBA for the collaboration received at this festival. We can do it, let’s do it, let’s do it together, as Mr. Gilberto Mendoza said”, pointed a statement from the Portuguesa Boxing Association.
It is expected that, at the end of the event, 200 fights will be completed with more than 400 active boxers, in a grand national event to honor the memory of one of the most important developers of boxing in Venezuela and Latin America.
