Amanda Serrano is the World Boxing Association (WBA) Boxer of the Month while Alycia Baumgardner took Honorable Mention for the month of February.
It was a great month for women’s boxing and the Puerto Rican made history by becoming the first undisputed champion of her country by dethroning the former WBA champion, Erika Cruz.
The event took place at Madison Square Garden, New York, and Serrano was the star of the night on February 2 with a tremendous unanimous decision victory. By winning the WBA title, he added it to his collection of WBO, WBA and IBF titles.
On the same night, Baumgardner scored a victory over Elhem Mekhaled to win the undisputed super featherweight title.
A dominant victory proved, once again, that the American is the most outstanding fighter in the category and now joined a select club of undisputed champions of today.
The WBA congratulates Serrano and Baumgardner on their awards for the month, while inviting you to check out the women’s rankings on the pioneering body’s official website.
