The vacant heavyweight (+200 lbs) title fight of the World Boxing Association between Fres Oquendo and Ruslan Chagaev, will have the South African Stanley Christodoulou as referee on Sunday July 6, 2014 at the Arena Ahmat Grozny, Russia.
Christodoulou will work together the Panamanian Guillermo Perez Pineda and Alex Marin as well as the Nicaraguan Jarquin Gustavo, who will be responsible for the scorecards.
The supervisor of the vacant title will be Renzo Bagnariol.
The Russian Chagaev, who is rated in the third position in the heavyweight division, has a record of 32-2-1, 20 KO’s and the y Puerto Rican Oquendo, is thefourth-ranked contender and has 37-7, 24 KO’s.
This is Oquendo second attempt to win the black and gold belt, the previous attemp was against John Ruiz in 2004 who lost by TKO at 11. Meanwhile, Chagaev and reigned in the division after he dethroned Nikolay Valuev in 2007.
