Filipino Charly Suarez will return to the ring next August 7 to defend his World Boxing Association (WBA) Asian belt against fellow Filipino Mark John Yap at The Flash Grand Ballroom of the Elorde Sports Complex in Paranaque City, Metro Manila.
The continental champion will make the first defense of the crown he won in March against Tomjune Mangubat with a 12-round technical knockout.
Suarez has become an icon for his country and his city as he combines his work as a boxer with his performance as a member of the national army. In fact, he received a promotion after winning the WBA Asian title.
This time he will face an experienced Yap who always goes to war. Although recent results have not been with him, he always goes for the exchange and manages to complicate his opponents.
Suarez is undefeated in 11 fights, with 7 knockouts, while Yap has 30 wins and 16 losses.
