Scotland’s Josh Taylor took the award as the best boxer of the month for February thanks to his victory over Jack Catterall last Saturday at the SSE Hydro, Glasgow, where he retained his World Boxing Association (WBA) super lightweight super championship and his WBC, IBF and WBO crowns.
The pioneer organization released its ranking lists, and with them the awards for the best of the month with Dominican Hector Garcia getting the honorable mention.
The undisputed 140-pound champion recovered from an eighth-round knockdown and overcame one of the toughest fights of his career to show why he is one of the best in the business today. Taylor showed in front of his home crowd in a tough fight but was able to come out on top with a split decision of 114-111, 112-113 and 113-112.
On the other hand, Garcia was the big attraction this Saturday night in Las Vegas, taking Chris Colbert’s undefeated record in their super featherweight eliminator fight. The Dominican Republic native took the bout on a few weeks’ notice but showed he was well prepared and used an aggressive style to nullify the American and earn a big win for his career.
Along with the February awards, the WBA rankings were also released with several important changes and measurements.
