After long expectations, the fight took place on Saturday night, and Briton Terry Harper won the WBA 154 lbs belt via unanimous decision.
Despite the uncertainty of seeing Harper in a higher category, she made true to her determination dominating the ring from the first out of her corner.
Both boxers fought in the center of the ring where Harper dominated the attack hurting the now former champion’s left chick and a cut on the eyebrow of the same injured side, caused by an accidental clash of heads, bothered Rankin until the end.
Until the sixth round, Harper’s offensive actions were very effective in finding Rankin’s free spaces to connect combinations. That positioned her in an advantage that Harper used after the sixth round to start walking a little more the ring trying only to defend herself. But that, while effective, gave her some of the later rounds in favor of the gritty Rankin.
Harper now boasts a record of 13 wins with 6 knockouts, 1 loss, 1 draw and is the new world super welterweight champion of the pioneering body.
