The American Bernard Hopkins insists on making history, and writing original chapters in the boxing world book. Now, on April 19 in Washington, he will seek to dethrone the Light Heavyweight super world champion of the World Boxing Association, Beibut Shumenov.
The fight was officially presented in New York, at a press conference held this week. Both champions said it will be a great show.
Hopkins will try to become the oldest champion to achieve unification. “I’m trying to make history to write another book about me,” said Hopkins.
Hopkins, (54-6-2, 32 KO´s) won the IBF title in March 2013 when defeated Tavoris Cloud by Unanimous decision.
For his part, Shumenov (14-1, 9-KO´s) is champion since 2010. “I’m excited to fight with one of the best boxers in history,” said WBA super champion in the Conference.
“I know that I have never faced someone with his level, and I know it may be the most difficult fight of my life. But I’ll do whatever it takes to win the fight. I’ll do what whatever possible and impossible to win,”Shumenov explained.
