This Wednesday, the World Boxing Association (WBA) announced its ranking for January, which includes the 15 best boxers in the 17 weight divisions of professional boxing.
The Boxer of the Month was awarded to Venezuelan Jorge Linares due to his victory by unanimous decision against Filipino Mercito Gesta on January 27. The “Golden Boy” showed off his great boxing and beat his rival by a wide margin: 118-110, 118-110 and 117-111. Thus, he retained the WBA Lightweight belt for the third time. His record is 44 wins, 3 losses and 27 knockouts.
For his part, Argentine Lucas Matthysse was awarded the Honorable Mention thanks to his knockout to Thai Tewa Kiram, who did not get passed the eighth round. Thus “La Máquina” obtained the WBA Welterweight belt to become world champion. His record is 39 wins, 4 losses and 36 knockouts.
The first 15 boxers of each weight division are the fighters enabled to fight for world title.
