The first shift of the World Boxing Association (WBA) Board Meeting was held this Sunday, October 29, in the morning. The members of the organization staff discussed various issues that represent a new era within the association’s history, as they said.
The growth to Medellin was one of the first topics discussed, since that is one of the main drivers for a change. The President of the WBA, Gilberto Jesus Mendoza, highlighted that it’s time to change our mindset, and instead of expecting to receive something from boxing, leaders and the organization should be giving something to this sport.
The executive also assured that upon his arrival to the Antioquian Department, and specifically to the city mentioned above, he will provide greater possibilities to the WBA in many aspects. The University of Antioquia Agreement will be a fundamental support for the Association’s plans, which consist of training talented athletes and changing lives through boxing as a mean for social development.
The Venezuelan boxer Carlos Chavez, a board member, stressed the legacy of the WBA Emeritus President, Gilberto Mendoza, and the action plan he left after announcing his resignation at the Panama Convention in 2015. He pointed out that adjusting to that plan to support the association’s new mindset is key to be able to achieve “The WBA we all want.”
Important points were also discussed regarding regions and the need of having unified criteria. A committee creation was agreed to coordinate the meeting to be held on Monday and to discuss every issue related to regions more thoroughly.
The Board of Directors members will hold the second shift of the meeting; they will continue discussing important issues regarding the organization immediate future and the intention to improve in all aspects.
